AGL Design & Training

Welcome to ALT Training Academy:   AGL Practitioner Training to CBTA (Competency Based Training & Assessment) standards adapted to meet Operational Performance requirements.

At the ALT Training Academy, we’re revolutionizing airport training by ensuring that every course is tailored to your specific operational needs for AGL Practitioners involved in AGL design, installation, maintenance and operational & regulatory functions.

Unlike generic training providers, we start with a comprehensive Training Needs Analysis (TNA) before the course even begins. This means we assess your team’s current skill levels, identify gaps, and design a program that delivers exactly what they need – no wasted time, no unnecessary content.

The ICAO, Regional & National Authority Standards & Recommended Procedures define that for all personnel involved in operations, Airport Authorities SHALL provide training and documentary evidence that all personnel involved in operational tasks shall undergo Initial (eg. Foundation), Recurrent & Refresher training at periodical intervals to demonstrate their continued competence to perform the tasks expected of them including the addition of Continuation training when appropriate

Our approach goes beyond one-size-fits-all training. We provide modular product training that aligns directly with the equipment and technology your airport is investing in. Instead of a broad, diluted curriculum, we focus on in-depth, product-specific instruction. With ALT Training Academy, you don’t just get training – you get a comprehensive learning experience that equips you for the real world.

In Summary

Airports and Aviation Authorities must adapt to this evolving operational landscape by ensuring the competency of personnel involved in design, installation, maintenance, and service. This is essential for enhancing airside performance and maintaining a safe, efficient operational environment.

As Airfield Ground Lighting (AGL) technology continues to advance, ongoing staff training and skill development are critical. Additionally, the broader Ground Traffic Management (GTM) system, which integrates AGL, plays a vital role in the safe movement of aircraft—from arrival at the airport to the runway, taxiways, parking areas, and back to departure. This increasingly complex environment presents new challenges that require specialized expertise.

To meet these demands, it is essential to achieve predefined maintenance performance standards and ensure personnel competency aligns with international regulations, including those set by ICAO, IEC, EASA, and the FAA.

Competency

The required level of knowledge, technical and behavioural skills and experience, and
language proficiency required in order to be authorized to perform duties on the system and
equipment staff are deemed competent to work on.

Training & Competency Assessment

Based upon structured “Training Needs Analysis” and Business and Operational review
the training and competency goals must be identified and a documented programme
implemented indicating the method by which the Airport can manage the training and
competence of its Airfield Ground Lighting engineering personnel.
