Last week, Perth proudly hosted a highly successful Aeronautical Ground Lighting (AGL) Maintenance Engineering training course for Perth International Airport maintenance personnel and specialist AGL contractors operating across Western Australia including Defence airfields. Bringingtogether airport professionals from across the region strengthens their technical capability and operational confidence. The programme, delivered by ALT, offered a comprehensive blend of theory and realistic learning designed to enhance participants’ understanding of AGL systems and modern airfield lighting technologies.
Across the week, attendees engaged in modules covering routine inspection practices, preventive maintenance, CCR servicing, cable testing applications, photometric measurement, and essential regulatory compliance. Sessions allowed participants to understand fault-finding techniques, workingwith connectors and testing equipment, and build familiarity with both LED and traditional lighting systems. The training also supported professional development by encouraging self-assessment against key competency areas and identifying future training priorities.
Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, with many praising the course’s clear structure, real-world examples, and the opportunity to collaborate with peers facing similar operational challenges. Several attendees highlighted that the combination of classroom instruction and real-lifedemonstrations provided immediate value they could bring back to their airfield work.
ALT extends thanks to all participants and looks forward to supporting further training initiatives across Australia and beyond.
